I am a registered Psychologist who grew up in Townsville playing a wide variety of sports and outdoor activities and have a desire to help people to achieve their full potential. I completed my Bachelors of Psychology (Honours) in 2013 and spent my early career psychology days working with children, adolescents, adults, groups and families. During my undergraduate degree I developed a keen passion for neuroscience which led me to seek out training in neurotherapy and neurofeedback through the Neurofeedback International Academy. Throughout my career I have developed a strong knowledge base in working with individuals of all ages and presentations.  I have always loved playing sports with my favourites being cricket, AFL and triathlon and have been fortunate enough to represent Australia in triathlon. I have a strong interest in exploring the benefits of exercise on mental health and well-being which led me to acquiring my personal training qualifications so as to be able to safely offer my clients a more active type of therapy or "active psychology" as I like to call it. I opened Active Health Psychology in 2020 and our growing team have been committed to supporting clients with a range of psychological and neurodevelopmental difficulties to achieve their full potential. I am particularly passionate about peak performance and throughout my career I love helping people to obtain their goals, whether they be related to physical or mental health, career, sports performance, or personal development. I love helping athletes and coaches to understand the mental processes involved in peak performance and currently work with professional and amateur athletes across a range of sports such as; Rugby league, triathlon, rugby union, cycling, basketball, motor cross, soccer, weight lifting, track and field and swimming. I am proud to be working closely with the WNBL team the Townsville Fire as their team Psychologist.

After completing my Bachelor of Psychological Science in 2021 I was keen to start working with a range of clients and presentations. I have also had a particular interest in working with children and their families to provide support for their needs. During my undergraduate degree, I worked as a support worker for people aged 6-64 with a variety of developmental concerns and neurological disorders. It was during this time that my passion for helping children with disabilities magnified seeing the daily struggles both children and their families have. Understanding what skills individuals need to function day-to-day helps guide my intervention approach. I joined the team at Active Health Psychology in 2022 after having seen and experienced the therapeutic benefits of exercise, I jumped at the chance to implement this into my practice. Growing up in an active family, sport and staying active is always something I have found important. Throughout my childhood, I was involved in a range of sports, from surf life-saving to netball and my weekends were filled with trips to local watering holes. Currently, I try to lead an active life through a range of activities including; Pilates, Yoga, weightlifting, hiking waterfalls and swimming at the beach with friends. The active psychology approach was something that heavily interested me as it allowed me to combine two of my biggest passions, mental health and fitness. Growing up in Townsville, I fell in love with the community and want to give back in any way I can. Ensuring clients feel comfortable and have a safe space to talk is key to my therapy approach. Using a client-centred approach, I like to work with the individual and their family to address their presenting concerns and help them achieve their goals. The flexibility of active and non-active sessions allows me to tailor the intervention to the client's skills and values, promoting continued engagement. I am excited to continue learning and increasing my skills through professional development and supervision.

I am a Registered Psychologist with a Master of Professional Psychology. I’m passionate about helping people unlock their strengths and create meaningful, lasting changes in their lives. My journey started in the fitness industry, where I spent more than a decade as a personal trainer. That experience gave me a deep appreciation for the connection between physical and mental wellbeing, and now, as a psychologist, I love blending these two passions to take a more holistic approach to mental health. In my sessions, I use a mix of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and a strengths-based approach. My goal is to empower clients to take control of their mindset, overcome challenges, and build confidence so they can move toward the life they want. I work with children, teens, and adults across a broad range of presentations, including: · ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) · Anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem · OCD and performance anxiety · Teen challenges, body image concerns, and motivation · Sport performance and goal achievement I also provide cognitive, learning, neurodevelopmental and psychological assessments, which help to better understand learning profiles, attention, and behaviour. These assessments often form the foundation for practical recommendations that support success at school, work, or in daily life. Clients often tell me they appreciate my warm, supportive approach—with a touch of humour—that makes therapy feel like a safe space where they can be open and honest. I believe in seeing the whole person, not just the problem, and I’m here to help you build the tools and confidence to thrive. Outside of work, you’ll find me exercising, playing netball, spending time with my dogs, or planning my next adventure. I also have a keen interest in history—especially World War II reflecting my love for learning and curiosity about people’s stories.

Tara Runde
THERAPY ASSISTANT
Personal values: "To never give up, be curious, and keep learning.”
I am currently completing my Honours year in Psychological Science at James Cook University, working toward provisional registration as a psychologist in 2026. As a Therapy Assistant at Active Health Psychology, I’m excited to support clients and clinicians in a team that values both mental and physical well-being. I’m passionate about the role that lifestyle and fitness play in supporting mental health. I have a strong interest in neuropsychology and how we can strengthen cognitive fitness to improve focus, emotional regulation and resilience, especially in children. Helping young people build these skills early in life can empower them to thrive and meet challenges with confidence. Before pursuing psychology, I spent over 20 years in the property industry where I developed a strong client focus and analytical skills that I now apply in a therapeutic setting. Outside of work and study, I’m a mum of three and I love staying active through running, camping, and exploring the outdoors. Living an active lifestyle is a big part of my life and being part of a team that embraces activity-based approaches to therapy is the perfect fit! I’m committed to ongoing learning and professional development, and I value the opportunity to build my skills through supervision and collaboration with experienced psychologists. I feel privileged to be part of a team that supports growth and empowers clients to lead healthier, more fulfilling lives.
